happened around 1-30 this morning near atkinson and capitol drive on the north side. police tell us they're looking for a four door maroon or dark red vehicle. that pedestrian is being treated in the hospital, but should be ok. happening this morning... the first meeting of milwaukee's new "water quality task force." it was put together because of concerns over lead pipes used to pump water into old homes. pete zervakis joins us live from milwaukee's northwest side with a look ahead at what's happening today this morning's first meeting of the water quality task force is set for 9 am at city hall. the group was put together to study how to make sure milwaukee's drinking water stays safe. according to the city... the water itself is clean and o-k to drink. but in some older homes -- those built pre-1951... lead pipes are being used to transport water

properties.... and then from property line to the water meter. that lead can dissolve and seep into the water. the city notified about 70- thousand such homeowners of the risk earlier this year. the mayor has called for people living in older homes to invest in water filters. they should also avoid using the hot water tap -- because the heat can dissolve lead from pipes. . , young children - under the age of six are most vulnerable. if older house and have kids -- you should have them tested for lead by a doctor as a precaution the consumer product safety commission recalls one million samsung galaxy note 7 smartphones after days of reports of the batteries overheating and catching fire. owners have two options: get a refund or have the phone replaced.to see if your phone

some of these students can attend graduation earlier this month students here at itt tech discovered this campus was closing and infact all itt campuses were closing nationwide . the shut down disrupts the education of about 40 thousand students across the country including hundreds at this campus. many of these students were on the heels of graduation. the herzing university brookfield campus is now inviting former itt tech students and their families to participate in the university's graduation ceremony and celebration. it's happen milwaukee performing arts centerthe time of the ceremony is 6:30 p.m., herzing says this ceremony is an opportunity for grauates to celebrate their accomplishment, the school also says it is a transfer-friendly university with opportunities to help all the other students at itt tech complete their degrees. today is the day the iphone 7

retailers aside from apple like at&t, verizon or best buy -- they may still have some. u-w-m's military and veterans resource center is holding an event tonight at the harley- davidson museum to raise awareness about suicide among veterans. the event begins at 1-30 this afternoon with a 22- mile ride from the u-w-m u-park lot on capitol dr through the city to the wood national cemetery and then ending at the museum.then at six, a showing of "project 22," a film that follows the cross country ride by two vets. a barbecue will follow the film. the bucks announced a brookfield based construction company will lead the construction of the new arena's entertainment block. "hunzinger construction" has worked on several of milwaukee's iconic venues including miller park, the pabst theater and the summerfest grounds.

new information just into our newsroom...for the first time today -- we're expected to learn more about the evidence against this man -- rodney earl sanders.he's accused of killing two nuns in mississippi -- one of them is originally from wisconsin -- this is her up here, sister margarat held. sanders will be in t prosecutors will have to present their evidence.the 46-year-old is accused of robbing and stabbing sister held and the nun she lived with sister merrill.the crime happened in one of the poorest counties in the country. sister held was buried here in wisconsin two weeks ago today -- and even on the day of her funeral those who knew sister held say they'll be praying for the man who killed her -- the other nuns who worked with her say they still do not believe in the death penalty. beyond wisconsin...an off-duty police officer and a man

conduct an investigation.they say officers were talking to a 13-year-old girl when she became combative and tugged on the officer's belt.that's when the officers gun went off. we now know the death of an inmate at the milwaukee county jail is ruled a homicide.the medical examiner's office says terrill thomas died from dehydration.april 15th, thomas was arrested for allegedly shooting a man in the chest outside his parents home on milwaukee's north side and then later allegedly casino. the sheriff's department, who runs the jail, says they won't comment until the investigation in complete. the son of the milwaukee county medical examiner has died of an apparent drug overdose.authorities say 29-year-old adam peterson -- son of doctor brian peterson -- died monday at a friend's apartment. less than two weeks before his son's death -- doctor peterson spoke on a panel of experts about the drug overdose epidemic. happening today:a milwaukee

garden to a young girl lost in a random shooting almost two years ago. laylah petersen was just five when she was killed. pete zervakis is live with how she's being remembered today. northwest catholic school - near 41st and good hope -- is dedicating this peace garden to laylah petersen's memory. there's a special ceremony tonight at 6 pm. according to prosecutors... yl a couch with her grandfather and sister inside a home at 58th and fairmount... when she was shot in the head and killed/ it happened in november of 2014. authorities say three men - two shooters and a getaway driver -- targeted the wrong house in the shooting. all were eventually taken into custody. organizers of tonight's dedication ceremony say laylah's memory will live on long into the future...

will be a symbol of hope for all of milwaukee's northwest side. live...pz... tmj4 breaking news this morning...julian assange's arrest warrant that was issued because of a rape accusation will not be dropped. a swedish court of appeals just made that ruling about an hour ago. assange is the founder of the wikileaks website -- and he says if he's extradited to he'll end up being sent to the u-s because of all of the secret documents wikileaks has dumped.swedish authorities began investigating assange after two women accused him of sexual assault and rape. some of those charges have been dropped.assange denies all of the allegations. so what happens now -- well assange -- who is australian -- is in equadorian embassy in london -- but authorities there will question him on sweden's behalf.swedish

are not working with the u-s government on this. wisconsin assembly democrats are calling for an investigation into allegations of criminal misconduct in scott walker's recall campaign... raised in report by the guardian.republican lawmakers have asked attorney general brad schimel to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate who leaked the documents. schimel has not said what he will do. new this looking for a way to make your life a little more sustainable, you might be interested in a new program in milwaukee. the city is turning to composting at home to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill . ann sterling is live in milwaukee's bay view neighborhood this morning. this is a one year pilot program to see how many families will participate. what to compost: things like

bread products -- bones, cheese, and coffee grounds as well as yard waste. the pilot program is being offered to a limited number of households right now -- they include the bay view area --- east side, and riverwest participating households will receive a 65-gallon cart for food and yard waste, which will be collected every other week. for the program will pay about 13 bucks per month for this additional collection service. they will receive a starter kit which includes everything you need. the department of public works is behind the program and say food waste makes up 21% of the average person's garbage. to help families reduce the amount of waste that is sent to the landfill, mayor tom barrett set a goal of achieving a 40% diversion rate of waste by the year 2020. this is one idea the city has come up with the meet the goal. this pilot program is
